Setting up your Bassinet for a good night's sleep

Setting up your Bassinet for a good night's sleep

Nursery Bedding Checklist

  1. Choose organic bedding that is free of chemicals and gentle on your little one's skin.
  2. Avoid materials like polyester, as they can trap heat and moisture.
  3. Make sure to select items that are free of hazardous chemicals, such as flame retardants, and opt for natural fibers like cotton or bamboo.
  4. Choose sheets that fit the mattress snugly, and avoid using overly fluffy comforters or quilts.
  5. Avoid using bumpers, blankets and pillows for infants, as these can create a suffocation hazard.
  6. Ensure that any stuffed animals or toys are kept away from the baby's sleeping area.
  7. Wash your bedding frequently to reduce allergens.

Setting up your little one for a good nights sleep may be daunting at first. But rest assured (pun intended) you can set yourself up with these handy tips. Setting up your bassinet and choosing the right bedding can help to create comfort and safety for your little one to enjoy.

The Mechanics - setting up the bassinet

The first step is to read the instruction manual that came with your bassinet. This will ensure that you understand the proper setup and safety guidelines. Once the bassinet is assembled, make sure it is placed on a flat, level surface, away from any sources of heat, such as heaters, vents, or fireplaces. Check that the mattress is snug and secure in the frame, and that the mattress pad is not too thick or too thin. Using the mattress that comes with your bassinet is recommended, and ensuring that you do not add in any toppers or foam inserts. Finally, make sure that all of the hardware is tightened securely and that the bassinet is stable.

The Bedding - choosing the best bedding

Set up bassinet bedding for a safe sleep by using a fitted sheet specifically designed for the mattress. Make sure that all bedding is made of breathable fabrics, such as cotton or muslin, and is free of any loose items such as pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals. If the bassinet has a canopy, make sure that it is securely fastened and out of the baby's reach.

Safe bassinet bedding should be placed snugly around the mattress and should not be too tight or too loose. It should also be free of any openings or gaps that could potentially cause suffocation. Make sure that the bedding is lightweight and does not have any strings or cords that could be a hazard.
